2007 Annual BBQ & Cook-Off

Each year the active members of Local 564 and retirees put together BBQ Cook-off teams to compete for cash prizes and to prepare the BBQ for the next days’ family BBQ at the Freeport Municipal Park.   We also have an annual Bake-Off where members and their spouses are invited to bring desserts to compete for cash prizes.

On Friday June 1, 2007, all the teams gathered and began their cooking.  There was some wonderful food served up at each team site.  We had a great turnout!  The nineteen (19) teams who participated this year

Again, our BBQ and Cook-Off was a great success!  With 19 teams participating this year in the cook-off, we served approximately 1500 members, retirees, and their families.  The fare consisted of brisket, sausage, potato salad, baked beans, and delicious desserts prepared by our bake-off contestants.

Bingo was played all day long, and prizes were drawn every hour.  Two, flat screen TV’s are donated each year by the Union’s attorneys, Williams Kherkher Law Firm, LLP to be awarded in a raffle at the end of the day.

Our judges for the BBQ cook-off were; Judge Joe King, Milam Miller, JP PCT 1, PL 2 and Commissioner "Dude" Payne.  Bake-off judges for the desserts were Billy Sims, Tony Fuentes and Pat Haagensen

The kid’s had a great time with the moonwalk and games.  We also had face painting and clowns who made balloon animals for the kids.  The dunking booth was a big hit.
